Sankirtan is defined as the congregational chanting of the holy names of Krishna or God. This is the process prescribed in the Vedic literatures for this present age of modernization and technology. Sankritan or Harinam Sankirtan as it is popularly called was introduced in the fifteenth century by Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who according to the revealed Vedic scriptures, is the incarnation of God. Through this sankirtan movement, He established an unprecedented reformation in the society and established through innumerable examples that this process of chanting is the most effective means of bringing peace on an individual and global level.
